CY-ESM Successfully Completes the Epidemiology and Surveillance Training Programme

The EU4Health co-funded CY-ESM (Cyprus Empowered Surveillance Mechanism) project has successfully completed the Training Programme on Epidemiology and Surveillance, delivered under Work Package 6 (WP6) – Capacity Building and Training. During 2026, two training groups were successfully implemented, with Group A taking place on 12–13 May 2026 and Group B on 30 June–1 July 2026 at the Shacolas Educational Centre for Clinical Medicine, Medical School University of Cyprus (UCY).

CY-ESM Participates in Joint Action UNITED4Surveillance Closing Meeting in Utrecht Date: May 2026

CY-ESM project team members recently traveled to Utrecht, Netherlands, to participate in the Closing Meeting of the Joint Action UNITED4Surveillance on 20 and 21 May 2026. The event brought together public health professionals, policymakers, and surveillance experts from across Europe to review progress and outline the future of integrated infectious disease surveillance.

On 10 June 2026 CY-ESM participated in the Mosquito-Borne Diseases Conference at the Filoxenia Conference Center, organized under the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026. The event opened with addresses by the Minister of Health, Neophytos Charalambides, and Ole Heuer (ECDC).

Delegation of the European Parliament’s Committee on Public Health (SANT) Visits the University of Cyprus Medical School – CY-ESM Presented

On 17 February 2026, the Medical School of the University of Cyprus welcomed a Delegation of the Committee on Public Health (SANT) of the European Parliament, chaired by Mr. Adam Jarubas. During the meeting, members of the Delegation were introduced to the Medical School's educational and research activities, with particular emphasis on areas of strategic importance, including infectious diseases, climate-related health challenges, and cancer prevention.

The European project CY-ESM (Cyprus Empowered Surveillance Mechanism) participated in the European Public Health Conference (EPH Conference), an international scientific forum bringing together public health researchers, policymakers, and practitioners from across Europe and beyond.

CY-ESM Kick-Off Event

The official launch of the CY-ESM (Cyprus Empowered Surveillance Mechanism) project took place on 26 February 2025 in Limassol. The aim of the project is to create a modern epidemiological surveillance mechanism for infectious diseases, enhancing public health in Cyprus.

We are excited to announce the upcoming launch of the CY-ESM project, set to take place on February 26, 2025, at the Atlantica Miramare Beach Hotel in Limassol. The Cyprus Empowered Surveillance Mechanism (CY-ESM), co-funded by HaDEA under the EU4Health program, aims to enhance health surveillance capabilities across Cyprus. This initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Medical and Public Health Services of the Ministry of Health, the Medical School of the University of Cyprus, the KIOS Center of Excellence for Research and Innovation, and the Veterinary Services of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment.
